Why Country is More Important than Party to U.S. Congressional Candidate Phil Ehr

Many Republicans are now seeing that it is more important to focus on the needs of our country and its citizens versus focusing on aligning with a Party that no longer holds the values it once possessed.

As the Constitution was agreed in 1787, a woman asked Benjamin Franklin, “Well, Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a monarchy?” He answered, “A republic madam, if you can keep it.” After eight years of experience with Constitutional government, President George Washington warned that political parties were likely to become “potent engines, by which cunning, ambitious, and unprincipled men will be enabled to subvert the power of the people and to usurp for themselves the reins of government …”

That happened in 2016 with the welcome aid of a hostile foreign power. Fortunately, elections in 2018 (U.S. House of Representatives) and 2019 (Virginia and Kentucky) show that Americans are waking up to reclaim our government.

“Registering to vote at 18 years old was one of the most empowering moments of my life. I am a mainstream, independent-minded voter who chose to vote in Republican primaries for 38 years,” Ehr stated.

“ I did not participate in party politics during my Naval career and for nine years after the Navy. The Republican Party’s nominations in 2016, both nationally and locally, compelled me to separate fully from that party’s corrupted leadership. Recognizing the danger to our Constitution, the reality of our two-party system, and the good judgment of mainstream Democrats, I affiliated with the Democratic Party in 2017 to fight the political idolatry and corruption that stains America’s honor and gravely risks our future,” Ehr concluded.
